Daarmee heeft de vereniging een belangrijk aandeel geleverd om biotechniek een eigen discipline te laten zijn. De BV telt ongeveer 800 leden. Het grootste deel van het ledenbestand bestaat uit art. 12 functionarissen die werkzaam zijn als dierverzorger en/of biotechnicus.
