22. Cole | Bishop

As serial founders ourselves, Cole | Bishop is an evolution of who we are. I sold my first company in 2005 and is was frankly, a terrible experience. My co-founder and I experienced all the things you hear horror stories about when dealing with venture capital, forced exits, and all the aftermath that follows. I told my wife, after the exit was complete, that the next company I build would be completely debt free. That is exactly what we did. From 2007 (unofficially) to present, my last company PeopleOps has been operating as a debt free company. This decision has allowed me the opportunity to angel invest in a lot of different companies. Through those investments we learned a lot about both buy and sell side transactions. We also learned that the typical path to exiting a company doesn't work for all founders, that companies that buy the companies do not always have the best or brightest intentions, and the value to shareholders is rarely maximized. The goal in designing Cole | Bishop is really a simple three pronged strategy. We seek to acquire small to medium companies, that alone are doing just fine in their own right. However, when paired with two to three other directly or indirectly complimentary organizations can become something truly special. Our idea then is not to sell it, but to take each acquisition toward an IPO. The second prong is to interject an executive leadership team that specifically addresses the gaps or hurdles facing the portfolio of acquisitions. Finally, the third component is for Cole | Bishop to provide on going strategic support with IT integrations, demand generation, marketing, and recruiting. Saving the new acquisitions potentially millions in consulting fee's. I am excited that PeopleOps has spun off our M&A practice to create Cole | Bishop to build out dedicated infrastructure to supporting a greater amount of transactions globally.
